dont teach little girls to hate other little girls. dont tell them other girls are mean and catty and gossip and talk behind their backs. dont tell them girls will steal their boyfriends and take all the blame off the boys who leave. dont tell them boys are better for any reason. dont teach lil girls to hate lil girls because they’ll grow into women who hate other women and there’s enough people in the world who hate women, thanks

harry potter reboot show is stupid and it’s got me so heated i was talking to my friend about it until 3am last night

1. it is far too soon for a reboot

“the films came out 20 years ago” okay but the fact is the films are still so fresh in public consciousness!! not a day goes by that i don’t see a harry potter gif, or hear a family member make a harry potter reference, or walk into a shop and see harry potter merchandise! while the original films may have ended in 2011, people still talk about them and reference them to this day!!! usually reboots occur after a property has been put to rest and the general public has ‘forgotten’ it - this is not the case with harry potter! it’s shocking how culturally relevant these films still continue to be, and fever around the original films still feels ongoing, rather than a distant thing of the past - making a reboot completely unnecessary

2. the films were too good

there is a trend of early 2000s fantasy films being rebooted into tv series at the moment (percy jackson, his dark materials, narnia). these franchises are different than harry potter for two reasons though. the first is that they have been mostly forgotten by the public (see the above point) and the second is that the film versions of these products were considered to be flawed. this is not the case with harry potter!!! those films are universally adored and a new adaptation is so unnecessary! of course there are some minor details changed or left out from the books, but overall they are considered extremely high quality adaptations. this tv show is not needed to ‘fix’ anything. no matter how excellent this tv show is (and i’m sure it will be very high quality), i don’t think it will be able to compare to the iconography and status of the films,

3. pressure on the actors

whoever is cast in this show is going to be under an intense amount of pressure and scrutiny because anyone cast will be directly compared to the BELOVED actors of the original films. the cast will need to be 10x better than the original actors, and even if they are, there will still be people hating on them because “you can’t replace the originals”. considering how YOUNG the majority of this cast will be, and how cruel the internet is, i can only think this will put them in an extremely unfair and difficult position.

5. there are so many other stories that could be told

the wizarding world is a universe with unlimited story potential!!! we could have a tv show about the founders of hogwarts or the marauders or tom riddle or a completely new story set in the modern world or ANYTHING ELSE!! there is so much potential in this universe for new stories, it seems so lazy and unneeded to rehash the original

6. it seems like a step back

the wizarding world tried to tell new stories with cursed child and fantastic beasts, and they received questionable critical reception - however at least this was an attempt to try and move forward with new ideas! reverting back to the original harry potter story seems like a step back rather than a step forward into a new future of potential for this universe.

god i hope they eat the baby and let coach live. i really do. it won’t happen he’s doomed and they’re going to start imagining him as a rotisserie chicken with a missing drumstick soon but i want him and his cursed condoms to make it out of the woods. they won’t. but i want it to happen. they’re going to hunt and eat him. i love that guy. he’s two seconds away from having to reenact a ~feminist retelling~ of The Most Dangerous Game. he’s going to have to sharpen his crutches into giant stakes. and it won’t even help him.
